Links of Interest
|
The following is a list of websites I regularly frequent. A couple of them are links to websites of other photographers, whom I am lucky to also be able to consider friends. Take some time to visit their websites as well.
Nature Photographer's Network This is where my interest in nature photography was raised to the point of actually buying a decent camera. This website is devoted to nature photography and related issues. Many of the images go far beyond publishable quality and in many cases, I have never seen similar images elsewhere. As an added bonus, it is remarkably free of the Canon vs Nikon debates. Danny Burk Danny is a photographer from northern Indiana specializing in landscape, nature and macrophotography. He also runs 4x5 workshops, tours, drum scanning services at reasonable prices and produces wonderful fine art prints. I also consider him a good friend. For the images alone, his website is well worth viewing. Jack Graham Another photographer I consider to be a friend. He is now living in Portland, but has extensively shot the Cuyahoga Valley National Park area. Jack also offers prints, photo workshops and tours. A website worth visiting for both its images and articles, it was recognized by the British magazine Outdoor Photographer. BH Most New York camera stores are of, shall we say, dubious reputation. B&H stands out as the exception and they have gotten a lot of my money over the years. The Focus Group A Columbus, Ohio based photography organization. Photographers of all skills levels are welcome (really(!) - this is where I started several years ago). We meet in the Upper Arlington Municipal Building, at 3600 Tremont, the second Friday of the month starting at 7:00 pm. This is the building and parking lot directly across from the OSU Golf Course. Midwest Photo Exchange The Columbus, Ohio photography store I generally try to spend money at. Great prices on Epson products (you will not find cheaper) and nationally known for their large format equipment. Lens and Leaves Another Columbus photography organization devoted exclusively to nature photography. Meetings are 7:00 pm at the Blacklick Metro Park, second Thursday of the month. Photoshop Workshops and Instruction Most Photoshop workshops are geared towards non-photographers or, at best, provide a minimal introduction for the needs of photographers. Even fewer are actually run by professional photographers. Danny Burk offers 5 day Photoshop workshops, covering the needs of photographers. On a personal note, I have taken one of his weekend sessions which was a compressed 5 day workshop and found it to be immensely useful. Highly recommended! Buffalo Museum of Science I grew up in Buffalo, New York and this museum was one of my favorite places to visit. It has changed a lot over the years, and for the better. Well worth the trip, with fun things for the kids and interesting exhibits for adults as well. Columbus Arts Scene I occasionally get asked about local arts resources in the Columbus, Ohio area. This is a good summary of what is out there. Ohio Arts Council This is the major statewide arts organization. For those of you looking for Ohio Arts Festivals, this lists most of them. This festivals listing is updated on or about January 1, with other minor updates as the year progresses.
